DOMINICAN MANGU

Mang is a traditional Dominican Republic delicacy made with green bananas. It is a tasty and inexpensive dish that is great to serve as a beginning or appetiser when unexpected guests arrive or when we want to surprise our family, friends, or spouse

Ingredientes

  • 6 green banana units
  • 4 cups (960 millilitres) water
  • 14 pound butter (or margarine)
  • 1 big white onion
  • 10 cup ice water
  • 1 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoons salt

Preparation

  1. The first step in making Dominican mang is to bring the four cups of water and salt to a boil. Remove the peel from the green bananas and chop them in half while they are cooking. Then, place them in a pot of boiling water for 10 minutes.
  2. When they're done, take them from the fire and mash them with a pestle. Add the cold water and butter gradually as you grind them. Then, when the vegetable oil is heated, cook the onion rings sliced into rings in it.
  3. Place the banana puree on the dishes and top with the fried onion rings. As you can see, this is a really easy and tasty Dominican mang dish. This appetiser can be paired with fried eggplants, zucchini, and pumpkin, or handmade croquettes and dumplings.
